I think this song is about how you can make generalizations about physical traits (or any traits, for that matter, I suppose) but really, it doesn't matter because, like Regina said, "When you're lying in your bed, darkness 'round your head, your eyes might as well be polka-dotted or plaid." Eye colors are just something that people see.

I changed my mind. Well, no, I didn't necessarily change my mind, I just thought of a better way to say what I'm thinking. I think this song is about judging people based on appearance. There are all these crazy statements you can make about a small thing like eye color that just completely describe your personality, and then she says, "When you're lying in your bed, darkness 'round your head, your eyes might as well be polka-dotted or plaid." So basically, all these generalizations are kind of pointless because what about when no one can see your eyes?...
