It's early yet, since I only recently bought this album, but my initial feeling is that the lyrics seem to reference the legend of the "Wandering Jew." The Wandering Jew, according to myth, was a man who scorned Jesus and was subsequently cursed to wander the world until the Second Coming. Hence, the mention of the "tree of Golgotha" and a seemingly immortal narrator who "travels the course of time," but seems cursed rather than blessed by his longevity. However, the interpretation goes deeper than that. There is some very esoteric material being referenced here, and it's going to take me a while longer to digest it all.
