This is one of my favourite love songs ever and to me it means exactly what it says - he fell in love with someone who once was just a face in a crowd, perhaps someone who came to watch them play.
'A Face in the crowd' was released in 1989, Full Moon Fever... And it makes me wonder if he had already fallen in love with Dana by then or whether he accidentally predicted his future.
