The whole song just sounds like a big confusion of emotions and feelings , but the sort of enjoyment in exploring that ... aware that, because the 2 people are sensitive to each other, in the long run (maybe not the short run) neither will get hurt.
I take it as the guy and the girl being different characters and singing their different parts, so...
