I kinda take this as a betrayal of some kind. Whether it be family or friend, we all get betrayed and hurt in our lives. The chorus I take as him speaking to a close friend/family member of his emotions due to the betrayal. Where he's asking if he's a terrible man, than admitting that he is indeed a terrible man, I think is saying how he gave in to his emotions. Anger, hurt, sadness, all negative emotions, making one a negative person. That's just my interpretation of it..
