"Curling lips, fingertips, dead eye dips
I saw it all in the blackfield"
curling lips as in kissing, and fingertips as in touching, the people are kissing and touching the dead person as a means to say goodbye. and when a person is dead, their eyelids are open, so someone closes them or "dips" them. this all happens in what i'm guessing the cemetery or "blackfield"
"Splinter cracks, summer tracks, paperbacks
We found them all in the blackfield"
i'm not sure what happens at a cemetery, but splinter cracks as in the coffin is being closed. summer tracks, the best thing i can think of is sunlight, because nothing else involves tracks and summer. paperbacks as in books in which people reminisce of the dead person.
"In the shade, whistle blades, singing fades
In the blackfield"
in the shade, representative of a sad mood. whistle blades, no idea. singing fades, the choir stops singing.
"She wants to stay and talk all day
so I remark when it gets dark
All the pale things under the earth
Will reverse"
the guy stays at the cemetery and talks with the girl about the dead person all day. but when it gets dark, the guy comments that it's time to leave because it's night and that's when the "pale things under the earth" aka the corpses "will reverse" or go to heaven.
"River glass, cycle past, overcast
I saw it all in the blackfield"
river glass, the river is frozen, meaning time is frozen (or the river is?) cycle past, i'm not sure about. the day is over? overcast, clouds are rolling in. the guy all saw this.
"Copper sky, shadows rise, bridge of sighs
We had it all in the blackfield"
copper sky, something is happening because the skies are a copper color. shadows rise, the corpses souls' are starting to go to heaven. bridge of sighs, they are relieved that they can be free now (or they were accepted into heaven idk). i'm not sure what the writer means when he says "we had it all in the blackfield".
"Skin tracks, face facts, fade to black
In the blackfield"
skin tracks as in a (music) record of your life. face facts, realize this is the truth, this was your life. fade to black, it's over now.
as for the music video, i agree with what ife1389 said, endless stream of photographs linking together and flying by symbolizing life and death.
