Comparing this to songs off Under My Skin makes me feel sad :(
Look at these lyrics... "Boy, I like messing in your bed". What... what the hell? What the Hell indeed Avril...
Ok, looking away from the actual deprived shallow meaning, "messing in your bed" is a hilariously badly written lyric... What, does she like to eat doritos in bed? God.
Looking at the ACTUAL meaning now, it's not much better. In fact, I'd prefer if she was speaking about some kind of habit of eating in bed.
Seeing an artist whose lyrics were once thoughtful, and something most people could relate to turn to this kind of mainstream pop garbage about being a run of the mill slut is really depressing. Singing about making out with a guy's friends, having meaningless sex, etc etc etc...
I am a sad panda :(
While you look at these lyrics, let me remind you of a little song called "Don't Tell Me". Think of those lyrics, then look at these. Shocking, innit?
I agree she's changed a lot. but she did say this was just a fun song. I'd say just wait and see what the full c.d. holds in store for us.
i loved her first couple cds. amazing.
her c.d. best damn thing was like woah, where'd the old avril go. still liked it but..not the same.
but hey, it's avril lavigne. who knows what this c.d. will be like.

Actually, you might be happier to know that Avril was forced to do this by her record company. They would not release her record until she put a poppy bratty song on it. It's catchy, but I do understand it's a bad kinda of thing to be putting out there. However she did not want to and makes no bones about saying out loud how the rest of the record won't be like this and it wasn't her choice to have something like this out there.

Avril is growing up. It happens to all artists. At least she's being blunt and honest about all of it instead of trying to hide it like other once-child-stars. I'm sorry, but I like this side of her. We already know she has a deep, intuitive side. I like seeing this funner, more peppy care-free side. She's allowed to grow up, and it started with the last album she released in case you didn't notice...it seems like you missed an entire album. What about "Girlfriend", "The Best Damn Thing", and other songs that simply say "I'm good and I know...

A lot of women walk around with a low self esteem. Avril is an inspiration. To me she says "You got it, now you just need to flaunt it." Be able to let go of some of the ridiculous standards we are held to as females and just be yourself and be awesome, let yourself go. Men do it, why can't women?
This song just screams insecurity. I wont touch girls who have this kind of attitude with a 10 foot pole. Avril has really fallen from the great artist she used to be.

JenniLee-keep in mind that the song was written by a 40 yr old man.

That this song might have some sort of normative affect on the development of teenage girls strikes me as creepy.

Other songs that ring true, like Don't Tell Me & Nobody's Home, were written by Lavigne & her contemporaries.

BTW-the message of this song isn't entirely bad. Young women should be having fun & enjoying life. If you're not married, you're not expected to stay loyal to a guy. Especially if he's not reciprocating. By all means, date a lot of different people. It's great to be...

But when you derive self-esteem from randomly hooking up w/ dudes, your identity is still dependent on what others think.

Artists should be able to have a little sing-at-the-top-of-my-lungs time here and there. Actually, they should have as much of that as they want.
