I don't think this is about prostitution specifically in the conventional sense where one trades physical pleasure for money.
This is more about any individual who gives up their ethics, their spirit, beliefs, freedoms for money. I think the artist implied it to be very generic.
Because in times like these, this is so applicable. We have so many people in this country that gave up all they belived into just for money, some to survive and others because they were making a lot. All this tragic unemployment and foreclosures that we have, the poverty a lot of people were driven to, all are results of the actions by the few that many knew were coming... but closed their eyes on because the money was fantastic.
And now its time for them to move on and be better than that.
