I have always liked, but never loved, the Gin Blossoms. However, I adore this song for reasons I can't quite pinpoint and am surprised that I am the first to comment.
I think this song is obviously about a break-up, but I can't quite tell if the sentiment is an I'm-losing-the-love-of-my-life type of sadness, or a this-breakup-is-for-the-best sadness. I suspect it's the latter. Thoughts?
@squashedbanana Of the two choices I would say it's a breakup for the best. I feel like there was something deeply flawed about the relationship at the center of this song. Maybe like it was one sided with one lover never truly wanting the other person to fully commit to them. Then when it went from an affair to a relationship it all fell apart. With the secret, pain and choices references it makes me think the person singing knew the cold and the lies could never add up to a relationship that would stand the test of time.
