this song is a beautiful and heart-breaking account of his dying relationship.
it actually explains my relationship right now, but from the other end. "it's in your mind, it's in your eyes" - my boyfriend can see that something's off with me. even though i love him, something's just not working..he can hear it in my voice, and he can see a change in my eyes. i don't look at him the same way that i used to :(. we've broken up before and gotten back together twice. he can just tell that my heart isn't in it anymore and though i don't even know how to tell him, he just knows that it's "goodbye again".
"you're falling out, i'm falling in" - this guy is so deeply in love with the girl, who's falling out of love with him. i feel like in writing this song, he's just expressing his confusion, frustration and his utter heart-break at the failure of this relationship that he's invested so much in, and would do anything for. they really do love each other, but maybe it just can't work. if it's at that point where it's "way past time for one last try" he knows that what they once had can't be salvaged anymore.
he'll wait around for her in hopes that she'll come back to him. "maybe you'll forget you were ever here" - he's maybe in denial - maybe she'll forget the bad and come back eventually, but either way he needs her to "cover"/comfort him before she goes. this song makes me cry :(
*"all the dreams of yesterday keep breaking me down" - he keeps thinking of all of his past dreams for the future with her in them, and breaks down because now they're shattered
*"all the dreams of yesterday keep breaking me down" - he keeps thinking of all of his past dreams for the future with her in them, and breaks down because now they're shattered
*and this is the most heart-wrenching kind of breakup. no fighting, no yelling, no cheating, no anger. just utter grief due to the extinguishment of a relationship that seemed like it would last forever, and that had been so fulfilling.
