first off i love the song. now i think the meaning is quite clear.
a person creates a character to either complement their own self or to hide their true identity.
nicki minaj is a character and i honestly don't believe by choice.
when nicki minaj first surfaced underground, she was raw, real and rapped hard.
i'm guessing someone on her team must have told her, "look your talented that's no question. you have all the skills you need to succeed. but the rapper you are now has been seen before. you need to stand out and switch up your style if you want to be extremely successful. if you want a record deal and fame and to be relevant in other peoples eyes." i believe that's what she did. she became a character just to stand out. if you saw her documentary on mtv, it pretty much coincides with what i''m saying. she's humble. she's afraid of failure. basically she's human. but now i think she's wishing she could go back to her old self. in reality i believe there is no turning back for nicki. the world loves nicki minaj as this character. so pretty much i think she's stuck.
so in conclusion, i think the song is pretty much self explanatory.
she misses the person she used to be, but that person is dead thanks to success, the media and her fear of failure.
