To me teh song is about having then losing the one you love. The first stanza she's still with him, "I got you by my side."
However, something happens like a fight and they break up in the 2nd stanza.
But in the 3rd stanza he isn't over her, even if he may have been mad. He wants to take it back and have what they had, "Say I see you to understand what it is to roll back the hands of time."
In the 4th stanza he's hoping that things could start again as quickly as they ended, and now he's fighting against time to get her back.
