my favorite thing is all the mumbling and vocal improvising jeremy does. because of this there are any number of interpretations one can get out of the things he says: for instance when I sing this song LOUD in my car... i sing it as "where where you? wanted me chained to this memory. we could have been the last time. show me the sigh, this side of chance. hold tomorrow with one foot in and one foot out?"
that is to say i'm sure any of us know what its like to string along (or be strung along by) someone. when you're the one being strung along you can almost hear the subtle contempt held by the other persons apathy whispering... "are you strong enough, pitiful boy?" as if to say "if you just hang in there a bit longer maybe this could be something..." but of course from the author's perspective, "we could've (or rather should've) been the LAST time," we went through this.
from the other perspective... that of the "stringer," we realize it is not apathy that does this. we sit with "one foot in and one foot out," unsure of the next step. perhaps having been hurt in the past and unwilling to fully commit. either way the part where he really loses and belts it out is the same from either perspective. such a good song
