This is by far my favourite song on cycles. Even though cartel are a band that probably wouldn’t have anything to do with drug use perhaps this song is from someone’s else’s perspective or he‘s comparing his love for someone to the addictive qualities of a drug.
The first part is saying that all he can think about is the drug everything around him/her fade away when he’s under the influence.
No one really sees how bad this persons addiction is, it’s hidden.
He/she is also thinking, maybe I’ll be okay if I leave this drugs alone but is never able to keep away.
This verse is full of references (self explanatory):
and i feel you crawling out my veins (injecting)
leaving the walls inside with flames
burning the emptiness i've saved
until lonely you remain
but then my lungs collapse and you pull me out (lung collapse [pneumothorax] is often cause by drug use)
forever i've been changed
honey you can take me now til it all runs out
ive weighed it all out
here and now my world turns inside out (he/she went too far and did too much)
It gives this feeling as though the person knows how bad his/her drug use is but still can’t seem to turn away from it.
