Lyric discussion by SupaPhreak

This song has to me always felt like a 'Thank you and goodnight' from the Pumpkins. The lyrics, vocals and melody all evoke emotions of achievement, pride and relief.

Machina (where this song comes from) was the last album before their split in 2000, and contains some of their strongest work, but there is a very lonely and weary feeling to the whole album. By this time the Pumpkins had been together for over 10 years, by all accounts they were feeling the strain of the rock and roll lifestyle and had a reputation for making each other miserable. Subsequently they broke up within about 6 months of Machina's release.

It seems as though after everything they've been through, and all they've achieved and all they've lost along the way they can finally all move on and start a new chapter in their lives.

Throughout the song there's Lyrics like: "Throw the weight up off your shoulders" "It's almost over, almost over, no more war and no more soldiers" "Away with all the troubles that you've made" "Away with everything you've grown to hate" "Away with everything that holds you safe"

That really makes me feel this song is about bringing their journey to a close.
