To me this song isn't just about that one guy Lene mentions but rather about a (sadly) really common situation in this world: Someone pretends. He or she pretends to be happy, pretends to be carefree or even pretends to be friendly. Not many people actually stop and think about all the little hints they get when talking to someone like that - for instance a too quick smile that doesn't quite reach the eyes. I guess the reason for that is quite simple. Ignorance is bliss and most of the people don't want to know about all the little problems somebody might have. They don't want to see the "real story", they "prefer the lie". And in doing so they "let him go alone".
Anyways, that's my interpretation of what this song generally is about.
