For the record, Six Mile Water is a RIVER in good old 'Norn Iron' (Northern Ireland) which runs near the hometown of the band.
I dunno if the song is about Fyfe. I've never really heard that they stopped talking when he left. It is evident that its about a friend who shared alot of fun and crazy times the the subjective, and they parted wats when things got just a little two crazy. The subjective lost touch because they were too busy being off their face to ring them up.
