I agree with what you guys are saying about how it's about leaving old friends and going to new places. But what I truly love about this song is the optimistic tone. "The future is frightening but i feel fine." There is no denying that the future is frightening for everybody, but what I take from this song is that we can't worry too much about the future. We simply have to live in the present. I think he "feels fine" because A) he knows his old friends will be there for him and B) there is no point in worrying about the future. Because, like his old man told him, "you only get older." If we look at life as a constant quest for this wisdom that we are somehow going to find with age, we are missing out on the best things in life. We live for today and just feel fine.
