To me, this seems like a song about two opposing sides of a very controversial opinion/a war, in a sense. (Hence the title about how opinions are "versus" the sun, which is a magnanimous figure that is above everyone, powerful and ever-present.) The two sides see very differently on some matter and thus the line "I hope I never see what they see" is very powerful. They believe their opinion is the right one and those whom they are opposing are misguided in their beliefs. There has been loss that makes one side question why they are doing this but their allies are with them and beside them, ready to save them.
