I've been listening to these lines over and over lately and I can't help but think that this song is about the death of a family pet. The last line, "Entwining into his paws" makes me think he isn't talking about a person but a dog. The dog died and they took him to rest under a "railway sleeper", where the foliage begins to claim his body. Beautiful!
