I can't remember the source sadly, but I read somewhere that the narrator of this song is a pet rat Emileigh had that killed itself, and the "monster" making it hide is in fact Emileigh herself. Not 100% sure of the truth of that but it's interesting anyway. Kinda suggests that we're all monsters from someone's perspective, which is a very Chiasm-like observation, so it could make sense on that level.
