From personal experience I can say that when people have something really great, even when it's gone the good memories never quite leave. We as humans tend to hold onto the memories that make us happy. So when you remember those often times you make yourself fall back into being with them and having the world at your feet, but then when you snap out of it you fall apart because that isn't yours anymore.
