from what I can tell, and I might be wrong, this song sounds like it is talking about Jack from the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas. In the movie Jack the Pumpkin King gets a grand dream to take over Christmas and add his own touch. but when he tries to explain it to his town of ghosts and goblins, they skew his view, making Christmas a disaster. hence "How can I explain when you just don't get it?"
