Cover art for A Dying Ember lyrics by Heaven Shall Burn

This song is about the elderly and how we cast them aside once they become to old to be of use. The title is a reference to the fact that once this human being was a strong person, now they are old and beginning to die.

all that's left are my memories these pictures of unworried days but no one's there to save my legacy it will just perish, fade with me

no one awaits me, nothing diverts me this withered body is no empty shell a dying ember

there is my god to carry me but in this world, I needed you

These lines show how this person has been abandoned. They can remember a better time when they were younger. They believe in God, but their children no longer care. This person is not dead, yet they are abandoned.

nothing to live for nothing to fight for and emptiness fills my days all my hope, a dying ember just promise me to hold my hand

This shows how the person is near death and they only wanted their children to be there during the last time of their life. The elderly person simply did not want to be alone. Their hope for life is fading.
