see, i feel like this song is about someone who got caught up in the monotony of life, and was just going through the motions. like maybe stuck in a job she hates, but has given up trying to find anything else. or devoting herself to her education and reaping no benefits and getting burned out, or even just pushing herself too hard with her music career and getting nowhere. because she gave up on finding an escape, it seems like she also gave up on other parts of her life. "two winters pass in a blur of sleepless nights" seems more like a time period of just how long she had felt this way, not really a time she was seeing someone long distance.
"all those times i'd hung my head to keep the peace, i had buried all my strength and will down deep" translates to me as this girl or woman who stopped being opinionated and strong because disagreeing and causing conflict was wearing down on her, and nothing seemed worth fighting for anymore.
but then someone comes along in her life that might be in the same problem, or just has a general struggle of their own, that she helps bring them out of, which in turn, gives her life again - "saving you, saved me."
