I was really hoping for a little more clarification from the 14th part of the Come Around Sundown videos but I guess we have to interpret it ourselves!
I think it's a guy who's walking his interest home and they're totally into each other. But then, he gets the feeling that something's wrong by the way she's acting. I don't think the weak refers to hiding or being scared, I think it's more along the lines of being "weak in the knees" and the "shine" refers to that lovey dovey flirtatious glow people get. Then the other guy pulls up and is showing off revving the engine and it all clicks for him and he sees that maybe he's not the only interest she has. So to show off, he picks a fight then gets his ass kicked. Honestly, I initially had our main character winning but Caleb says something about the guy getting his ass kicked in the interview soooo... :)
The rest of his song is basically him licking his wounds and trying to justify the fight by saying "I did it all for you."
