This song is one of those that is very vague. it's sort of a musical Rorschach. but listening to it, it has a really lonely abandoned feel. I always thought of it along the lines of loving some one & hanging on to wanting them even though they are long gone. which is explained by the " I waited for you but you never came". the rest are just great metaphors for being depressed. sort of just going through life like a drone. just moving because you have to, not because you feel motivated to. like you're a passenger in your own life.
