The metaphor can be interpreted beyond what is expressed in the song itself (e.g. They were both in the moving car, aka relationship, before it came to an unexpected stop). While the girl is "thrown clear" from the car (a safe distance away from the wreckage of their relationship), the singer is left trapped inside, consumed by the flames (grief) and unable to escape (move on).
There's a certain bitter tone; "...just because you're bleeding / you think that I'm not bleeding". She assumes he doesn't share her pain but they were both hurt by the crash and he is the one left to burn in the wreckage, while they can easily recover and move on.
