Lyric discussion by badandbroken

First, RIP in Mr. Solomon Burke.

Your song speaks to my soul and always has since I first heard it. I'm not sure why. It makes me feel like crying, making love, dancing...my perceptions and mood change every time I hear this...it makes my hair stand on end and my heart ache.

It was the perfect selection for the scene in Dirty Dancing.

As far as meaning, I've been listening to this song while reading about Mr. Burke's life and I'm going to go out on a limb and say this song is not fom a man to woman, or woman to a man, or any of those. It's from Jesus, the spirit, God, [pick your omniscient omnipotent being], to all of us.

Why would we feel like crying? For me, that's lies at the heart of the whole resurrection/firgiveness of sins mythos.

There are two examples in the lyrics that lead me to think this:

"You don't ever have to walk alone, oh you see Oh come on, take my hand and baby won't you walk with me?"

and

"When you're waiting for a voice to come In the night and there is no one Ah don't you feel like crying? (cry to me)"

is true badandbroken...this song calls upon Burke's time as a childhood chapel preacher to deliver a devoutly impassioned sermon.

An error occured.
