It seems to be a pretty straight forward song about waiting to find someone you truly love. The "that's no way to get to heaven" line seems to make no sense with the rest of the song though. At least I can't figure it out.

In essence (killing their love for each other) - That's no way to get to the ultimate satisfaction of being together. Well, at best, that's my take on it.
