Boy Lilikoi Lyrics

I grew up in Hawai'i, where you can pick lilikois in anybody's backyard, and if you've never had a real lilikoi, it's hard to imagine what kind of fruit it is. It's messy, goopy and often bitter. To open one without a knife or any other implement, you have to break it or bite it open. Inside are a bunch of brown seeds contained in orange/sometimes grey fruit; it's not exactly pretty. Typically you eat it with your fingers, and chew the seeds along with everything else. Overall it's a very primal experience, and it's not uncommon to see a little kid with lilikoi mess all over their face. I absolutely love this song because it captures the feral innocence of childhood, much like Where the Wild Things Are, as the previous comment indicated.
