I'm surprised no one's commented on this song! My younger sister played this song for me last week and I absolutely love it!!!! It's her fault!!! ^.^ Some of the lines have somewhat religious undertones to it. I don't know much about the artist's background, could someone fill me in?
I am glad I am not the only one to read on here...This song and every song on the album is amazing...I had heard The Departed and My Light, and sadly, my grandparents got in a car accident last Thursday...My grandpa passed and my grandma was in critical until Friday...(yes it happened two days ago)...so I was listening to The Departed and crying and decided to purchase (yes, I legally bought it) the whole album...It is very deep and is by far more emotional than Godsmack is (not comparing the band to hsi solo project, just the music)......

Anyways, I have been a fan of Sully for years (back when I saw the video for I Stand Alone on the Scorpion King special features--who knows how long ago [even though I am only 19 now, it seems forever ago])...
Also, I'm assuming these have been here since before the album actually released because in the 'album version' the lyrics "Redeem my soul into my body/And to think my soul's been damned again and again and again" are changed to "And see the soul beyond the body/The need to do it all again and again and again"...Also, the lines "Trying to be higher than I am/Trying to see beyond what I can" are sung one more time (for a total of three) in the album version.

Thanks guys. :) I knew that Sully was the front man of Godsmack. Jeremy, how sad that your grandfather passed away. :( It's so hard to lose someone you love. I also appreciate the information that you've given me to get a better outlook on just who he is. I love his music, and I'm wanting to better understand what drives him to compose the way he does.

@rockmetalgirl he has acknowledged in the past too being Wiccan. It is a funeral song. They are releasing a loved ones 'soul' to the Summerland's (kinda like heaven). Hope this.helps.

This is his religious followings and such...
Sully is a Wiccan. It is a "pagan" nature religion. You can read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wicca and http://www.wicca.org/
If you want to know more about Sully, you should get his book, 'The Paths We Choose' and go to: http://sullyerna.com/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sully_Erna
Thanks, Jeremy<3
