Lyric discussion by nutinbutnet112

so i did my research and the term "ghost in the machine" refers to the British philosopher Gilbert Ryle, who tried to make a mockery of Rene Decartes mind-body dualism, saying that its like having a ghost (your soul) in a machine (your body). knowing B.o.B this is a dual meaning song, ironic due to the background of the title (mind-body dualism). yes it refers to himself as a ghost and society as the machine. "how ironic that we're all so blind" meaning we just go through our daily actions without paying attention to details that we should. B.o.B who claims many times he is from another demention and galaxy (he jokes of course) is saying that as an artist he can see things that most people can't in society. however, i think the second meaning to this song has to do with the struggle in oneself, trying to break away from his own body. like Ryle said the body is a machine including the brain even thinking clearly is a mechanical process, however our soul works completely separately from our body in our subconcious. when he says "i grab my bags and go, as far away as i can go" i think he means that he tries to find that space in his mind where he can find his true soul. however he cant show everyone what his soul wants to show them because his body is a machine and is unchangable by his soul. thats what i think. comment on it. either way i love this song and i can listen to it all day nonstop lol

I love your interpretation. It breaks through the surface of the words/lyrics to find depth. If you get the chance, read "the ghost in the machine" by Arthur Koestler.
