The heart is made up of cardiac muscle tissue, so the singer is saying "it takes a heart to fall in love." Since the lyrics are also about heartbreak, it has a double meaning of "it takes strength to fall in love." Sometimes love hurts you immensely, but you have to be strong and get through it. I think that's the message behind the song. It hits home.
