After hearing the full version, I was not disappointed.
Initially, I figured all this "heart" stuff, has to be about love, or a broken heart, but after listening to it several times I think it's about addiction, and recovering from addiction.
He can't compete with the clear eyes of strangers, losing friends,he mentions it's the first step and day one everytime, which is always the case when you're struggling to be sober.
You could easily attribute it to a caustic love as well.
Either way, it's a sad but hopeful song, and further cements my love for Jimmy Eat World.
