it seems to be about how two people have such a deep emotional connection that its almost haunting. it keeps them both up at night. its like one person has taken away a chunk of the other, so that they are no longer whole. the other is kind of a puppet master, who forces the speaker to say what the other wants them to say. The speaker seems to like the other though, and is afraid to break the grip that the other has on them because it may end their friend/relationship. The speaker is waiting for some sign as to what he should do (lightning striking the same place twice).
I love this song, but its all very confusing, it makes me go around in circles, I can't really get a firm grasp on its meaning. Maybe this was done on purpose?
its got to be about some relationship, romantic I think. Interesting about the baby with the tinkle xylophone instrument.

The 'do you know my fears' section always gets me up thinking he's going to ask this person about their relationship, maybe one that existed in the past and he realizes he can't live without.

What really strikes me as odd is the fourth to fifth stanza:

I wake up and fall down

The proximity of those two seem too purposeful.

Concrete to fill in bones is a great example of OP's first meaning. I'm a big fan of the former relationship that he wants to reignite. Lightning striking could refer to the electricity between them or the fact that he doesn't have any chance that this would happen. Forgetting what to say would also seem to think its happened before.

oh, or maybe its got something to do with his baby, keeping him up all night with crying?
