I think this song is fairly self explanatory. She is leaving him and he doesn't want her to go... STAY! Maybe before this, he didn't have enough courage to express his love to her properly and that's why she left.

I think that's about right Delilah, the way I read it though, it's not a breakup. I see it as more that he's in love with a friend, who he has never had the courage to tell her that she is more than just a friend to him and then when he does tell her, she's not interested.
