Surely It has to be about a former relationship. As simple as someone he still has feelings for but she doesn't?
I take the phrase "It looks like you summered well" to mean that since they split she has got on with things, lived her life to the full... had sunshine in her life.
"All the while the protestors shine the same But you will never notice - It's alright"... He makes it obvious that he still has feelings but she is enjoying her current life so much that she doesn't notice (or just ignores it). It's alright... He deals with it because he respects her/loves her. But when people say they are alright.. they really aren't. He tells himself "It's all the way behind us" and "I'll make it back" to try and get through it.. but he's still hurting.
"I rely on the process, don't mind the frame. They will never take this dream from me" - Maybe he has a process for getting through a break-up.. some sort of denial.
