i'm reading it right now as: if you know who you really are, the anxiety that comes at the beginning of a new relationship with someone should be pretty simple and natural. versus when you're putting on a new self, your fears are more complicated and it will feel that way emotionally.
and this song's trying to tell us to stick to your own skin even though it may seem difficult when you want someone to like you, because the other option will become so much more complicated and detrimental.
