I agree that it isn't "dissing" religion or God. Envy On the Coast is a band that is definitely a band that is faithful and they wouldn't write a song dissing their own faith. Sometimes you have to read deeper into it.
The way I see it he's saying that if you knew all there was to know about religion or God it wouldn't matter because the knowledge can't make up for faith. So even if you abstain from sin "never coveted or killed" or if you were taught to say amen, it doesn't make you any more of a believer than if you knew nothing about religion.
