I swear this song about watching a friend go downward in his addiction. The first verse talks about how little problems turn into huge ones---don't ignore the warnings (i.e. waves). Furthermore, so many people have tried to help you (i.e. cavalary). Burning the days (using drugs maybe even burning the substance to use it) and carrying on =just going through the motions unnecrssarily as if under the influence. Harvest the pain=using drugs to numb the pain. No control=addicts are powerless over the addiction.
