Lyric discussion by letterpress

i can't believe no one has commented on this incredible song yet... robert francis, however young he may be, is a songwriter with a gift: he can tell a story so descriptively, yet still make it relatable, regardless of circumstance and/or personal experience. it's all about empathy.

i first heard this song during the closing credits of the vicious kind (a brilliant film and one of my very favorites -- well worth the watch). i felt compelled to keep going back, rewinding to the part when the song starts softly playing in the background, segueing into a scene whose interpretation of the lyrics is very literal (a train). that slow build up, the knowledge that something is yet to come... the beginning of this song is filled with it, and thus, it's only logical to apply it to the film. and then, when the credits roll, the ethereal experience of absorbing what has just happened in a wonderful film and the feelings it evokes and the song and the melody and the goosebumps it causes... wow. truly moving.

that said, here are some possible corrections (based only on what i hear, and i have heard this song many, many times):

all of my trains they all roll on by may wind again i remember who i am

well i woke up sad to three's a crowd the summer was festerin' down blood inside a honey jar, i unstuck myself from the beating car drew my eyes open like ash chimney smoke through blades of grass seein' little man, black work horse boots and hidden past the business suits there's waterlilies over stream rivers and brands and coffee beans pistol vision in my hands, i want to see my blood across the sand

morning always looked like you morning always looked like you and from my window the only view is you walkin' away and not looking back

all of my trains my life spent away in the dark of my veins oh nothing can stay

i continue through a back lit world where the willows bend like long black curls down your face from mine, through the kinks in your spine from the last thing we spoke to the very first line love was something that we couldn't help but do that something turned to someone else, somebody new i just love to love, and you love to cry i meant it through each second that we said goodbye

and i came up past a station where the floors were all blue somethin' in the way it looked reminded me of you it might have been how far i'd come so i dropped a match until the floor was gone

all of my trains i let them all go all of my trains i let them all go all of my trains i let them all go all of my trains

then i lit the thread across the station door kentucky straight, i hit the floor the station tussled up in flames but i could only read the bottle's name and i weaned its breast and turned it dry like the wake of summer from july i got up and tripped over my knees which caved in at the slightest breeze

morning always looked like you morning always looked like you

all of my trains i let them all go all of my trains i let them all go all of my trains i let them all go all of my trains i thought you should know i thought you should know i thought you should know i thought you should know (x2)

I agree my first time to hear it was in the movie which i also thought was very good. I looked the song up and loved it since.
