I agree with SwimFan4her... To me, this song is almost written to himself. Like he is referring to Jack's Mannequin, his solo identity. Though i know the song is referencing his friend who had previously had cancer I still think there is a double meaning there. It becomes especially obvious when he says "I, I had songs for you
