I think it's about a guy who has opened up to a girl because he loves and trusts her, but when he does she doesn't like what she sees. She doesn't seem him in the same way she did before he revealved himself to her. He wishes he never bothered to show her now because he never wanted her to feel this way about him.
Despite this, they both still love eachother, but he feels it's impossible to have what they had beforehand.
Interesting song and interpretation. It's apparent his head is made of wood, at least the one on top of his shoulders. He appears to sell her short, thinking the worst of her. Just maybe she gets turned on just thinking about being in his company...just hearing his voice; his laugh, and watching his quirky movements. Just maybe he is fearful of being unattractive (emotionally) to her when her feelings toward him never changed. Just maybe she has more respect for him for opening up to her and trusting her. Just maybe she's not a cad. Just maybe she loves him...

I agree, and (even though i already posted my interpretation,) I don't think it's quite rejection, I think it's because he's been hurt before and she loves him more than he will ever love her, but he does love her and he does care, he just doesn't want to hurt her. so he never should've showed her who he is, the good parts.

This is what I get from the song:

Well, that's what I make of it, anyway.
