I totally get this song. It's really sad, but for someone who has struggled with these emotions, it's really uplifting to know that God will always be there for you. (I'm anorexic- that's another way of dealing with pain.)
Little girl terrified
She'd leave her room if only bruises would heal
A home is no place to hide
Her heart is breaking from the pain that she feels
So probably someone in her family is hurting her emotionally, so she hides at home.
Every day's the same
She fights to find her way
She hurts, she breaks
She hides and tries to pray
She wonders why
Does anyone ever hear her when she cries?
She has depression- she feels hopeless every day, and every day is a struggle to make it through. She hides and tries to ask god what to do because she feels so helpless. She hides all her emotions- she doesn't want anyone to see her break down, but then she also wants someone to comfort her and tell her everything will be okay in the end
Today she's turning sixteen
Everyone singing, but she can't seem to smile
They never get past arms length
How could they act like everything is alright?
Pulling down her long sleeves
To cover all the memories that scars leave
She says,
"Maybe making me bleed
Will be the answer that could wash the slate clean."
So people close to her- friends and family- she sees as faking that everything is okay. She's still pretending that she's fine, but she still really wants someone to see past her disguises and love her. Then, it talks about her cutting. She's obviously still hiding, and she doesn't feel worthy of anything, so she tries to be better by cutting. It's really sad.
This is the dark before the dawn
The storm before the peace
Don't be afraid cause seasons change
And God is watching over you
He hears you
This is talking about how there actually is hope- that this is a short time of terror, and that God will bring about change for the better. She doesn't need to fear because God is always there for her.
Every day's the same
She fights to find her way
She hurts, she breaks
She hides and tries to pray
She'll be just fine
Cause I know He hears her
When she cries
So this starts with the old chorus, but then shows that there's hope in God- she's still breaking, but God is there, even when it feels like no one else is. She'll be be just fine because God cares about her.
She'll be just fine
Cause I know He hears her
When she cries
This is the same thing as the previous stanza, still saying that no matter what God will always be there for her and she doesn't have to cut anymore.
I hope whoever reads this is really touched by these lyrics and their meanings. I sure was.
