In the beginning of the song, the guy is in a relationship but he doesn't really feel anything for the girl - thus she's getting colder to him. Maybe he's done something he feels guilty about, or maybe he just wants to tell her that he wants to leave. But he keeps trying to make things work, the only way he knows how, and it sounds like that isn't working too well because the devil inside of him keeps telling him he should just do what he wants.
