Um, so, why hasn't anyone commented yet? And, why aren't these guys the most popular band in the entire world?! With regards to the meaning, I've always thought of the whole album as a sort of journey - and this is the end. This is where the singer has returned home from this journey to open arms and "love that's waiting" and thinks his life is now perfect. However, his memories haunt him - memories of a better, freer, more complete life, one he created for himself and one he has given up. So, he searches (I searched in vain, I failed to find it), but he can no longer regain what he once was. Therefore, the only thing for him to do is to "shut down the dusty towns, burn down the memories" and accept twilight has fallen over who he once was and a new chapter in his life has begun
