Sounds to me like someone who may have once been a good person but then one day gave away someone he loved for fame or wealth but now he's lost it all and he's trying to give the last of what he has to get that person back.

I don't really think any of their songs are religious. You can ask for salvation without it meaning salvation from the Christian God. I just think people can reflect better if it revolves around something they can wrap their heads around (i.e redemption from God). However, I'm not religious so this doesn't have the same affect for me. Their songs are very poetic and to some degree tragic but they always have a glimmer of hope.
