I think this was probably written for his oldest child considering the timing of the record if it is about his children. But it could also be about his wife, and him nurturing her, and maybe being controlling, but that is the way he is, and she loves him for it, and he's grateful for that.
But I prefer the kids theory. It's also more likely. :)
