I see it as the person being in love and basically he's fed up. Not happy in the relationship and he kind of states it with the line "I don't want to dance anymore" obviously not meaning dance literally but it's always seen as a way of expressing enjoyment. Then he mentions "I thought I'd be ok till I hit that floor" maybe meaning rock bottom? He's finally hit rock bottom and just can't take the depressing romance that he is feeling.

I think it's about how him and his girlfriend or whatever used to go out dancing. Now that she left him and he has no one to go out dancing with, he doesn't even want to. Doesn't even want to attempt to have fun.

He thought that his life would be better with this person, but now he feels he's in a worse place than he was before.

I'm relating way too much to this song right now! :-(

I like ikickledagirl's version better because I was in the same boat about this time last year, and while your version is also a good one, and valid, I'm hitting all the literal strides as the songs author.

felt stuck in a relationship - going out dancing was one of those things we did often, but later on I just loathed the moment because I had to force myself to pretend I'm enjoying myself, but it's so obvious that she notices but doesn't say anything - just lets it eat away at her/us. Next thing I know we split up...
